Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Overview
    1. What is eCornell? Where is it located?
eCornell is Cornell University’s online learning platform. It is 100% owned by Cornell University and is located in Ithaca, New York.
    2. I travel a lot in order to attend to Company matters. Is this certificate/course from eCornell suitable for me?
The eCornell program is designed for people who cannot afford to take days away from work, and who travel extensively. Learners will find that they can do this in their hotel room, at the airport whilst waiting for their flight, and when they were in between meetings. They can even download materials to read, and can also start writing their assignments and discussion points when they are on the plane.
    3. What support does Genashtim provide to me as a learner?
As the legitimate partner of eCornell (click here), Genashtim can provide local support in your time zone and in your local language.
  2. Enrolment
    1. What are the requirements for enrolment?
Interested CSC participant would have to provided the needed information found in the registration. It will then be evaluated by CSC for approval.
    2. How do I enroll to eCornell through Genashtim?
Our Program Consultants will guide you through finding the right course/certificate to enhance your career. And they will also help and support as you take each course.
    3. Are there any pre-requisites for any of the certificates or courses?
Generally very few, as long as you are a working executive. CSC together with your Genashtim Learning Consultant can advise you on pre-requisites after getting the information from question 1 above. Some courses need to be taken in sequence, and you will also be advised accordingly, depending on which course/certificate you choose.
    4. What will happen if I move to another country in the middle of my certificate?
It will be seamless. You just continue with your courses. The only thing that you need to do is to inform us of any change in contact details, in case we need to get in touch with you.
    5. When registering as a student of eCornell, how will it be different from registering as a Cornell University student?
When you register as a Cornell University student, you have to physically attend classes on the Ithaca campus in New York. Whereas when you register as an eCornell student, you will be studying in a virtual online classroom, but with real international classmates and an instructor in the USA. You can access your courses and your classes anytime, from anywhere in the world.
    6. Why can't a full class take just one additional learner?
When the class is full, we are not able to add any extra student because Cornell University is very stringent about this. They have determined the maximum class size so that the instructor is able to ensure that every single participant not only understands all the content, but is able to demonstrate application of the learning. Cornell University needs to ensure this quality of outcome as they will issue a Cornell University certificate should the right combination of courses be taken.
  3. Certificates and Courses
    1. Are there exams to take at the end of the certificate program?
As the certificates will be issued by Cornell University, there are rather stringent processes in place to ensure that you have acquired the learning. For each course, there are a combination of:
      • Quizzes (multiple choice questions)
      • Discussions
      • Boards with a certain degree of mandatory participation
      • Assignments and projects
      • Reflective essays
      Hence no examination is necessary.
    2. How are the courses organized?

Except for the courses under Data Analytics which run for 3 weeks, all courses run for two (2) weeks, starting on a Wednesday and ending the second Wednesday after that. This gives you 2 weekends to catch up in case your working week gets too hectic.
      Starting time:
      Wednesday 9pm Singapore time
      Ending time:
Wednesday 2 weeks later at 11.59am Singapore time

There are no specific times that you have to be online. It is suggested that you access the course regularly during the 2 weeks, so that you will be in sync with the other learners in your class, and having meaningful discussions with them on the discussion boards.

If you are new to eLearning, it might initially take you about 10 to 12 hours over the 2 weeks to complete the course. Our more seasoned learners can get through a course in 6 hours. Generally speaking, the content in each eCornell course is equivalent to the content quantity that you will find in a 2 to 3 days physical workshop or seminar.

Please click for a 4 minute video on how a class is run.

Most of the courses will have a class starting every month. Some courses have two classes each month, and a few courses have classes in alternate months.

When you register, you can select your preferred course schedule. In case something comes up along the way, and you will not be able to attend any particular class, you need to give us 48 hours’ notice before the class starts, to change to a later class date.

    3. Any pre-requisite for each of the certificate or courses?
Please refer to 2(3) above. Generally speaking, “no”.
    4. Any suggested sequence to take the courses in a certificate?
Generally, the courses in a certificate can be taken any sequence. However, there is a recommended sequence, and we do suggest you follow that, to optimise your learning. You have up to 2 years to complete your certificate. The majority of the certificates are 6 courses, and these can be completed rather comfortably within 3 months.
    5. If a course is available on more than one certificate, will I need to retake the course for the 2nd certificate?
No, you can use your one course for more than one certificate. You do not need to take it more than once.
    6. What will I earn after completing a course?
After successfully completing a course, you will be awarded with a letter of completion. On the other hand, you can earn a Cornell University after you have completed a series of courses as identified by CSC.
    7. How will I get my Certificate/letter of completion?
Once you have completed a course or the preselected CSC series of courses, you will be given an electronic copy of the letter of completion/certificate that you can download and print.
    8. Is there a degree program or an MBA?
The eCornell program is an executive education program. You can earn Certificates and Masters Certificates from Cornell University. For the academic programs like degrees and MBAs, you need to enrol on campus at Cornell University.
    9. Can I reschedule my course schedule?
Yes, in case something comes up along the way, and you will not be able to attend any particular class, you need to give us 48 hours’ notice before the class starts, to change to a later class date.
    10. Can I take 2 courses at the same time?
Yes, if you are familiar with eLearning or have taken an eCornell course before. We have had learners who do 3 courses at the same time, but that would be stretching it. You might need to take time off from work to do this.
    11. Can I be given an extension if I exceed the period of completion?
This is at the discretion of the instructor. Generally speaking, if you have completed more than 50% of your course, you might be given an extra day. You need to ask your instructor early, and to cite the reasons for your request. Again, it is at the discretion of the instructor.
    12. What if I fail to complete a course?
For participants who would like to retake the course, a retake fee of $75 is applicable.
    13. Will I get a printed copy of my certificate?
After completing all Courses for the Certificate, you will be given an electronic Certificate which you can download and print from the student portal.
    14. I have enrolled only for 1 certificate with eCornell. When I log in to the student portal, I see another certificate name, which I have not enrolled, being listed in the portal. May I know why?

Many of our courses are part of more than one certificate program. So when a student enrols into one of those courses that is in multiple certificates, we list all the possible certificates onto the student profile.

It gives the student an opportunity to track how much they have done towards the second certificate if they decided to go ahead and pursue it.

    15. What are the languages available in eCornell?
      Chinese (Simplified)
