When registering as a student of eCornell, how will it be different from registering as a Cornell University student? When you register as a Cornell University student, you have to physically attend classes on the Ithaca campus in New York. Whereas when you register as an eCornell student, you will be studying in a virtual online classroom, but with real international classmates and an instructor in the USA. You can access your courses and your classes anytime, from anywhere in the world.
-
Why can't a full class take just one additional learner? When the class is full, we are not able to add any extra student because Cornell University is very stringent about this. They have determined the maximum class size so that the instructor is able to ensure that every single participant not only understands all the content, but is able to demonstrate application of the learning. Cornell University needs to ensure this quality of outcome as they will issue a Cornell University certificate should the right combination of courses be taken.

Certificates and Courses
-
Are there exams to take at the end of the certificate program? As the certificates will be issued by Cornell University, there are rather stringent processes in place to ensure that you have acquired the learning. For each course, there are a combination of:

- Discussions
- Boards with a certain degree of mandatory participation
- Assignments and projects
- Reflective essays
-
How are the courses organized?
Except for the courses under Data Analytics which run for 3 weeks, all courses run for two (2) weeks, starting on a Wednesday and ending the second Wednesday after that. This gives you 2 weekends to catch up in case your working week gets too hectic.
Starting time:
Wednesday 9pm Singapore time
Ending time:
Wednesday 2 weeks later at 11.59am Singapore timeThere are no specific times that you have to be online. It is suggested that you access the course regularly during the 2 weeks, so that you will be in sync with the other learners in your class, and having meaningful discussions with them on the discussion boards.
If you are new to eLearning, it might initially take you about 10 to 12 hours over the 2 weeks to complete the course. Our more seasoned learners can get through a course in 6 hours. Generally speaking, the content in each eCornell course is equivalent to the content quantity that you will find in a 2 to 3 days physical workshop or seminar.
Please click for a 4 minute video on how a class is run.
Most of the courses will have a class starting every month. Some courses have two classes each month, and a few courses have classes in alternate months.
When you register, you can select your preferred course schedule. In case something comes up along the way, and you will not be able to attend any particular class, you need to give us 48 hours’ notice before the class starts, to change to a later class date.

-
Any suggested sequence to take the courses in a certificate?Generally, the courses in a certificate can be taken any sequence. However, there is a recommended sequence, and we do suggest you follow that, to optimise your learning. You have up to 2 years to complete your certificate. The majority of the certificates are 6 courses, and these can be completed rather comfortably within 3 months.
-

-

-
I have enrolled only for 1 certificate with eCornell. When I log in to the student portal, I see another certificate name, which I have not enrolled, being listed in the portal. May I know why?
Many of our courses are part of more than one certificate program. So when a student enrols into one of those courses that is in multiple certificates, we list all the possible certificates onto the student profile.
It gives the student an opportunity to track how much they have done towards the second certificate if they decided to go ahead and pursue it.
